Corso di III livello - Technological Challenges of Commercial High-Speed Flight - Ing.Davide Ferretto

Sala Ferrari - II floor - DIMEAS

Abstract: This course aims at providing PhD students with a wide perspective on the main technological challenges of commercial high-speed flight, focusing on both vehicle and on-board systems design. Worldwide, both aeronautical and space domains are currently conveying their interest in the field of supersonic and hypersonic transportation. Indeed, the development of enabling technologies to allow high-speed flight is seen as crucial gate for future long haul routes flight service. Complementary, all these efforts are considered also as preparatory steps towards the future reusable access to space vehicles segment. In this context, this course offers to the students an overview of the most recent advancements on the topic, both providing an insight on the current situation of potential vehicle candidates scheduled to entry into service in the next decades, which will be analyzed in the context of future aviation roadmap, and discussing the methodologies for vehicle and on-board systems design, developed during latest research activities. At this purpose, some short keynote speeches from international experts, currently active within high-speed related initiatives, are also planned.
