Introduction to the Lattice Boltzmann Method for Accurate and Practically Relevant Flow Simulations

The seminar will be presented by Prof. Damiano Casalino, Chair of Aeroacoustics at the Aerospace Faculty of Delft University of Technology.
The talk will introduce the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) for flow modelling and describe how turbulence modelling can be integrated within the LBM framework. After reviewing classical discretization schemes for low-speed flows, the speaker will outline strategies to extend the method to high-speed regimes. The seminar will also present examples of supersonic flow simulations from the literature and discuss the main challenges associated with these applications.
