Abstract
Automotive Industry is in the middle of a dramatic evolution caused by the quick development of disruptive (ICT‐based) technologies. Companies need novel skills for the new generation of their automotive engineers, effective design and manufacturing solutions for their products/processes, and the settlement of an integrated ecosystem together with
University and public stakeholders. The speech describes some of the best practices proposed by the Automotive Academy of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia together with the most important car makers and automotive companies of the Emilia‐ Romagna Region (Dallara Automobili, FCA Maserati/Alfa Romeo, Ducati, Lamborghini, Toro Rosso, Magneti Marelli, HPE‐COXA, etc.).
The foundation of the Motorvehicle University of the Emilia‐Romagna Region, the creation of the Modena Automotive Smart Area with the endorsement of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, the proposal of new industrial research activities based on the principles of computer based engineering and Industry 4.0 are discussed.
