SEMINAR by Dr. Susann Beier

Sala FERRARI, 2nd floor, DIMEAS – 10:00 am

The Coronary Atlas
The coronary atlas is the largest collection of processed coronary angiogram images. Together with computational modelling, shape analysis and benchtop experiments these can reveal unique insights into our individual differences and why generic coronary artery disease treatment methods will not always work. This thus not only forms a platform for optimising existing strategies but opens entire new pathways for preventive strategies through early prediction with medical biomarkers.

Curriculum Vitae
Susann is originally from Germany where she completed her undergraduate degree whilst working as a research assistant at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. After her undergraduate she worked as a Research Engineer at the University of Auckland, New Zealand where she was leading international R&D projects from clients around the world. After completing her master’s in Chemical and Materials Engineering she decided to combine and apply her knowledge to the biomedical space whereby she embarked on a PhD at the University of Auckland. Since then, her research explores the fluid dynamics at underpin cardiovascular disease to understand biological processes and improve clinical interventions. Her work directly translates to emerging and existing areas such as personalised stenting, 3D realistic printing and population profiling. She now started her own lab as Lecturer in Biofluids at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney Australia.
