Curves and Cantilevers: Tailoring Band Gaps in Hexagonal Lattices

Sala Ferrari DIMEAS (2nd floor) - DIMEAS - Politecnico di Torino - Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24

Dr. Mukherjee, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (India), will present the seminar “Curves and Cantilevers: Tailoring Band Gaps in Hexagonal Lattices”.
The seminar will address recent developments in the field of mechanical metamaterials for vibration mitigation applications. The presentation will focus on two-dimensional hexagonal lattice structures integrating straight and curved beam elements to achieve tailored band-gap characteristics and enhanced control of wave propagation.
Particular attention will be devoted to the influence of geometric parameters on dispersion behavior, wave dynamics, and wave directionality. The proposed designs demonstrate how new low- and mid-frequency band gaps can be generated while preserving the overall lattice architecture and dimensions of conventional hexagonal configurations.
Dr. Mukherjee received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science (India) and subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at Bauhaus University Weimar, Swansea University, and the Technical University of Munich. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur. His research activities focus on mechanical metamaterials, wave propagation, and composite structures.
The seminar will conclude with a discussion session.
