"Special activities" Laboratory

Objectives

Some activities of the Automation and Robotic group are difficult to be strictly enlisted in one laboratory, therefore they have been grouped together into a sort of “virtual” laboratory named special activities.
Example of activities:

Genova, the port beyond the Apennine

Guido Belforte, Roberto Grassi, Terenziano Raparelli

Feasibility studies concerning an innovative solution for loading/unloading of container ships into Genua Harbour based on the delocalization of the storage area..
The mentioned area is going to be located in the inland and connected to the quays via a set of dedicated railway shuttles travelling at low speed along a protected line. All operations are performed automatically except for the interaction with the container ship.

Main tasks

  • Characteristics of the railway transport system.
  • Characteristics of the rolling stock.
  • Process automation for container handling.
  • Automation of the inland storage area.
  • Simulation software for studying the interaction between crane and train and for the modelling of the railway traffic along the line.

Transports in Cinque Terre Park (Italy)

Guido Belforte, Gabriella Eula, Terenziano Raparelli

In this study, the possibility to connect some villages of Cinque Terre Park (Italy) with some old churches, on the top of the hills, was considered. The people movement can be obtained using inclinated lifts. In this way some footways can be travelled over by old and disable people too. A virtual film, to simulate the system and the people transport, was realised.

A study on an improvement of agricultural transports in the Cinque Terre Park hills was also carried on.
