Diego obtained his Phd in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Italy) and Scuola Interpolitecnica di Dottorato in 2012. In 2015 he was the recipient of a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Global Fellowship from the European Research Council and worked at the Biomedical Simulation Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering of the University of Toronto (Ontario, Canada). In 2016, he returned to the Politecnico di Torino, where he is currently an Associate Professor in Industrial Bioengineering in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the PoliToBIOMed Lab, the Interdepartmental Research Centre in Biomedical Engineering of the same university. He served as Guest Editor for the Annals of Biomedical Engineering (Springer-Nature) and he is currently an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Pediatrics-Pediatric Cardiology (Frontiers), and a Topic Editor for Fluids (MDPI). He served for two terms in the Executive Board of the Italian Chapter of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB-ITA). His current research focuses on elucidating the associations between blood fluid mechanics, vascular morphometry and cardiovascular disease development, diagnosis and treatment; the clinical translation of these associations; the design and optimization of cardiovascular devices and surgical techniques. He is author of 4 patents and 120+ publications, 70+ of them in peer-reviewed international scientific journals. He was the recipient of the 2018 Jack Perkins Prize for the best scientific paper published in 2017 in Medical Engineering & Physics (Springer-Nature).
