Biography

Daniela Maffiodo received her MS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 and her PhD in Applied Mechanics in 1999. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMEAS) of the Polytechnic University of Turin. Her main fields of research are: - Biomedical Engineering: devices for the rehabilitation of disabled people (intermittent pneumatic device for cardiovascular recovery, ankle and elbow orthoses), perturbator device for postural control assessment, sensorized climbing holds for sport climbing, numerical and experimental study of heart valve prosthesis. - Robotics: manipulators actuated by shape memory actuators, grasping handles for activity in cramped environments, hybrid locomotion robots for semi-structured environments. - Fluid automation: innovative pneumatic components, active pneumatic pads, study of friction forces in reciprocating compressor valves, innovative membrane pressure regulator. She conducts industrial research in the fields of industrial automation, robotics and pneumatics. She collaborated with several companies, such as Robino and Galandrino, Dayco Europe, TRW, Matrix, Cozzani, Salvagnini Italia, Società Lanificio Tallia Galoppo Verzoletto, SPEA, AMUT Daniela Maffiodo authored more than 100 scientific and technical papers in her field of research. She also holds 9 patents. Lecturer in Applied Mechanics, Machine Mechanics and Fluid Automation. Member of the Quality Presidium of the Polytechnic University of Turin. Member of the Board of the TLab (Teaching and Learning Laboratory) of the Politecnico di Torino. Member of the Board of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering.
