LINE A. Numerical-experimental methodologies for static-dynamic analysis of propulsion and transmission systems of motion in vehicles and/or plants

Design and numerical simulation, finite element analysis, multibody and multi-physics approaches (cells method) for the investigation of structural, dynamic-vibrational, acoustic and thermo-mechanical behaviour of components and systems; development of methodologies and dedicated numeric codes for the solution of coupled physical problems.

Sensitivity parameter analysis of engine and transmission components; development of master degrees of freedom selection criteria to improve the numerical stability of reduced models minimizing the matrices ill-conditioning; development of uniaxial and multi-axial damage models for estimating the residual life to low cycle, thermal and thermo-mechanical fatigue.

Experimental characterization (room and high temperature) of materials, components and systems (static, wear, fatigue: LCF, HCF, TMF).

Experimental static, modal and dynamic analyses of main powertrain subsystems and components of vehicles and plants; comparison with reduced models to define accurate experimental approaches for dynamic behaviour forecasting; monitoring and diagnostics of systems and subsystems.

LINE B. Innovative materials and treatments

Analysis of materials and components subjected to deep cryogenic treatment and hard thin coating; analysis of treatment influence in terms of improvement of wear, corrosion, static strength and fatigue; development of damage models and methodologies for the numerical simulation of crack propagation.

Design of high performance thermoplastic polymers for the design and construction of mechanical components (engine components, gears, shafts, bearings).

LINE C. Sustainable mobility and recumbent racing

Design and construction of recumbent human-powered vehicles and velomobiles for urban transport, tourism and competition; design of innovative bicycle components, ergonomic study of pedalling, definition of test protocols for laboratory, on road and track tests.
