Biography

Lorenzo Pallante (Italy, born in 1994) is currently a Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Politecnico di Torino under the supervision of Prof. Marco Agostino Deriu. Mr Lorenzo Pallante received his B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy) in 2016 after an undergraduate internship aimed at creating and characterizing nanofibrous membranes for regenerative medicine. In 2019, he received his M.Sc. cum laude in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy). During his master thesis, titled “Human Tubulin Conformational Dynamics and Global Correlations Driven by Colchicine Binding”, he has investigated the conformational changes of several human tubulin isotypes induced by the presence of colchicine through molecular modelling tools. From June to October 2019, he continued his research as a research fellow at Politecnico di Torino. Since November 2019, he is enrolled in a joint PhD programme of the University of Turin and the Politecnico di Torino in Bioengineering and Medical-Surgical Sciences focused on the molecular basis of subcellular mechanics, investigated using computational modelling techniques, e.g. molecular dynamics, ensemble molecular docking, metadynamics, free energy calculations, rational drug design, and machine learning. In 2023, he completed the defence of his PhD thesise and started his activity as Postdoctoral researcher, which is still ongoing. His research primarily centers on unraveling the molecular mechanisms governing supra-molecular and cellular phenomena to gain insights into both physiological and pathological conditions. Within his research scope, he delves into exploring critical molecular players in taste perception, including taste receptors. Additionally, he applies machine learning techniques to predict the properties of food ingredients and the taste of compounds based on their chemical structures. He has practical experience with bash scripting, Python, C and MATLAB, and speaks fluent Italian and English. He is also the author of 11 papers on peer-reviewed journals and has participated in several international conferences also as a speaker.
