Biography

My research focuses on turbulent and transitional wall-bounded flows, with a particular emphasis on the Lagrangian perspective, that is, the study of the motion of particles carried by the flow. Wall-bounded flows are of particular relevance due to their ubiquitous presence in aerospace and industrial applications. Furthermore, the Lagrangian perspective arises as a natural framework to study transport phenomena and to provide a deeper characterization of the features of turbulence. Given the complexity of turbulent flows, it is necessary to carry out their study through simulations that are able to resolve the entire flow field.
To this purpose, during my research, I wrote numerical simulation codes for transitional and fully developed flows in collaboration with the Power and Flow group at the Technical university of Eindhoven.
Using data from these simulations, I explored the mixing of tracers in channel flow, the properties of transitional boundary layers, the mixing and clustering of inertial tracers and the shape evolution of multiparticle structures in transitional flows. Also, new methods of analysis based on the theory of complex networks were developed and employed to provide further insight into turbulence dynamics.
