Seminar "Reconstruction and Extension of Turbomachinery Aerodynamic Design Systems" - Prof. Jinguang Yang School of Energy and Power, Dalian University of Technology, China

2:30 p.m. - Sala Ferrari (2° floor DIMEAS)

Abstract
Turbomachinery aerodynamic design calculation appeared about 80 years ago, as steam turbines and turbojet engines started to be used in the industry. As the technology developing, the aerodynamic design process evolved from simple hand calculation to sophisticated design system. Even at nowadays, the requirements of economy and environmental friendliness are continuously posing challenges to the turbomachinery design systems. In the present talk, the turbomachinery aerodynamic design systems with different complexity and type of application, including axial flow compressor/turbine, centrifugal compressor, and radial turbine, are reviewed according to the author’s experience. New technical challenges are summarized, many improvements are supplemented to better fulfill the current requirements, and new applications are demonstrated.

Dr. Jinguang Yang obtained his PhD degree in Aerospace propulsion engineering from Nothwestern Polytechnical University in 2013, and now he is an associate professor in Dalian University of Technology. He was a visiting scholar in Politecnico di Torino in Feb. 2018- Feb. 2019. He focuses research on aircraft engine aerothermodynamics, turbomachinery design and analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and engineering optimization etc. He was involved in more than 10 research projects from different foundations such as National Natural Science Foundation of China, “973 program”, National Key Research and Development program, and from industrial companies. He is author of more than 50 scientific papers, and owner of 8 software copyrights and 2 patents.
